Flower Care

Flower Care Achillea Yarrow:

Achillea, also known as Yarrow, with its bright, delicate blooms and fern-like foliage, makes a stunning addition to any floral arrangement. To keep your Yarrow cut flowers looking fresh and vibrant, follow these simple care tips.

By following these care tips, your cut Yarrow flowers will stay fresh, vibrant, and beautiful for longer, adding a cheerful touch to your floral arrangements.

1. Trim the Stems

  • Before placing your Yarrow in water, trim the stems at a 45-degree angle, about 1–2 inches from the bottom. This increases the surface area for better water absorption. If the stems are woody, you can gently crush the ends to help them absorb water more effectively.

2. Use Clean Water

  • Fill a clean vase with fresh, lukewarm water. Change the water every 2–3 days to prevent bacteria buildup, which can shorten the life of your Yarrow. Always use clean, fresh water to help the flowers last longer.

3. Keep the Water Fresh

  • Yarrow can drink a fair amount of water, so be sure to change the water regularly. When you replace the water, trim the stems again by about 1 inch to help keep the water absorption optimal.
  • Tip: Clean the vase thoroughly each time you change the water to avoid bacterial growth.

4. Remove Submerged Foliage

  • To prevent bacteria from growing, remove any leaves or stems that will be submerged in the water. This keeps the water cleaner for longer and prevents decay, allowing the flowers to stay fresh.

5. Avoid Direct Sunlight and Heat

  • Place your Yarrow arrangement in a cool, shaded area, away from direct sunlight, heat sources, or drafts. Too much heat can cause the flowers to wilt quickly, reducing their lifespan.

6. Proper Vase Spacing

  • Ensure your vase isn't overcrowded. Yarrow flowers have a delicate structure, so proper spacing is important to allow air circulation and prevent stems from rubbing against each other, which could lead to damage.

7. Remove Wilted or Damaged Flowers

  • As some Yarrow blooms may wilt faster than others, remove any dead or damaged flowers regularly. This helps the remaining flowers stay hydrated and continue to bloom vibrantly.

8. Store in a Cool Room

  • Yarrow does best in cooler temperatures. Keep your flowers in a room with stable, moderate temperatures. Avoid placing them near hot appliances or in areas with fluctuating temperatures to prevent premature wilting.
