Flower Care Greenery:

Greenery is a vital part of floral arrangements, adding texture, depth, and a natural touch. To ensure your cut greenery stays fresh and lasts as long as possible, here are some essential care tips.

By following these care tips, your cut greenery will stay lush, fresh, and vibrant for a longer time, enhancing the beauty and longevity of any floral arrangement.

1. Trim the Stems

  • Before placing your greenery in water, cut about 1–2 inches off the bottom of the stems at a 45-degree angle using sharp scissors or a knife. This allows the greenery to absorb water more effectively and reduces the risk of air bubbles blocking the water uptake. Make sure to remove any rubber bands or plastic/paper you might have around the bunches

2. Remove Excess Leaves

  • Remove any leaves or foliage that will be submerged in the water. This helps prevent bacterial growth, which can shorten the lifespan of your greenery. Keeping the water clean and free from decaying plant material ensures the greenery stays fresh for longer.

3. Use Clean Water

  • Fill a clean vase with fresh, cool or room-temperature water. Make sure the vase is thoroughly clean to avoid introducing bacteria. While some greenery can last in just water, you can also add flower food if available to help nourish the greenery and keep it fresh for longer. Be sure to follow the instructions for the right amount of flower food.

4. Place in a Cool Location

  • Greenery generally prefers cool temperatures. Keep your greenery in a shaded, cool area away from direct sunlight, heat sources, or drafts. Excessive heat or direct sunlight can cause the leaves to dry out or wilt more quickly.

5. Change the Water Regularly

  • Change the water every 2–3 days to keep it fresh and free from bacteria. When you change the water, re-cut the stems by about 1 inch to help the greenery continue absorbing water effectively.

6. Avoid Ethylene Gas

  • Like many flowers, greenery is sensitive to ethylene gas, which is emitted by ripening fruit and some flowers. Keep your greenery away from fruit or vegetables to ensure it stays fresh for a longer period.

7. Use a Proper Vase Size

  • For large or dense greenery, use a larger vase to give the stems enough space to spread out and absorb water properly. This prevents overcrowding and helps the greenery stay hydrated.

8. Remove Wilting or Damaged Greenery

  • As some parts of the greenery start to fade or wither, remove them from the arrangement. This will help prevent bacterial growth and allow the remaining fresh greenery to continue thriving.

9. Handle with Care

  • While greenery is usually durable, it's important to handle it gently to avoid bruising or damaging the leaves. For delicate greenery like ferns or ivy, be extra cautious when arranging or moving them.
